My name is Vinita Marwaha Madill

I am a Space Engineer.

When I was 10 I wanted to be an astronaut.

I work as a Engineering Manager. Space & Transportation.

I am proud of contributing to a spacesuit programme at the European Space Agency (ESA) that will be worn on the International Space Station (ISS) next year to prevent bone and muscle loss in astronauts, with the potential to be used for long-duration exploration. Also working on ISS payload operations and astronaut training.

The biggest obstacle I have faced was overcoming preconceived ideals. I’ve always known that I wanted to work in the space industry, however it wasn’t a career path that was expected. I had to prove to others and myself that it was possible.

My advice to women is I was once told that, “No one will ever care about your career as much as you do.” You need to take opportunities as they arise over the years and make them fit for you. I think it’s possible to achieve your career goal in the space industry; it takes perseverance and dedication, but is absolutely worth it.
