The Hub for Canadian Women in STEM

My name is Stephanie Hudson

I am a Scientist and Activist

When I was 10 I wanted to be a famous author.

I am proud of contributing to an area of research that focuses on the biological differences between the sexes. Until recently it was very common for science to only use males in research and extrapolate those findings to females – which, as we’ve found, doesn’t really work!

I am an MSc Candidate: Neuroscience

The biggest obstacle I have faced is chronically attributing my success to luck or the generosity of others! I have to remind myself that I too have played a role in my achievements over the years.

My advice to women is that getting involved in science as a woman is key to ensuring that it stays inclusive. The more diverse our ideas and studies are, the more relevant our findings will be. For example, I would love to see more research that focuses on trans* women.
