The Hub for Canadian Women in STEM

My name is Soha El-Sabaawi

I am a Digital Games Activist

When I was 10 I wanted to be a famous author

I am proud of when people have approached me to tell me that my work inspired them to create and write something, especially when it’s making their first game. It means a lot to me that I can put something out there that gives other people strength or encouragement!

I work as a Games Critic & Designer

The biggest obstacle I have faced is getting over the belief that I need to be an experienced programmer to make games! There are so many beginner-friendly tools that helped me find my own aesthetic and voice.

My advice to women is never convince yourself that your thoughts are insignificant. There will be people out there who try and make things harder for you, or belittle your work, but they’re only doing this to make themselves feel better. Make sure to equip yourself with a loving support system!
