The Hub for Canadian Women in STEM

My name is Kara Stone.

I am a Game/Interactive Art Maker.

When I was 10 I wanted to be a witch princess botanist.

I work as a Videogames and Interactive Art.

I am proud of my first videogame, Medication Meditation. Not only because it was my first and it was built in amazing workshop with Dames Making Games to make it, but because it is such a personal story without being about myself. It made me talk openly about living with mental illness and connect with others

The biggest obstacle I have faced – and am still struggling with – is to be able to be open and honest enough to make personal and emotional stories.

My advice to women is don’t be afraid to be weird. Follow the weirdness. Explore things you want to understand. Make things with personal, emotional, vulnerable stories so people can connect with it. Try not to listen to other people when they tell you what is right and wrong when it comes to making videogames and art.
