The Hub for Canadian Women in STEM

My name is Gail Carmichael

I am a Computer Scientist and Educator

When I was 10 I wanted to be a “biker-baker-teacher”

I work as a Faculty Instructor and Part-time PhD Student

I am proud of my work in education and outreach. I am proud of the impact I can make in these students’ lives, and appreciate the opportunity to shape their views of a wonderful and exciting field.

The biggest obstacle I have faced was too many interests! Although it makes my life richer, I have been known to stretch myself too thin.

My advice to women is follow your passion! There are thousands of ways to connect studies in science and engineering with what you care about most, even if many of these connections are not obvious! If you are working to solve problems you are passionate about, it won’t feel like hard work at all.
