The Hub for Canadian Women in STEM

My name is Elizabeth Jens

I am an Engineer

When I was 10 I wanted to be an astronaut.

I work as a PhD Candidate, Dept of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Stanford University

I am proud of receiving the Australian Fulbright Scholarship in Science and Engineering. That scholarship came at a time when I was most discouraged about my career prospects and abilities in space science and engineering. It gave me the means and the confidence to move to the States and commence my graduate studies.

The biggest obstacle I have faced is trying to conduct meaningful work to assist in space exploration efforts as a citizen of a non-space faring nation (Australia).

My advice to women is to have the confidence to talk with others about your goals. Advice and assistance may come from very unexpected corners (it certainly has for me) but others will only be able to assist you if they know what it is you are trying to achieve.
