Meredith Underell

Portraits of Strength features women in STEM who have helped break barriers and achieved great things within their industry. These are the movers and shakers making a better world for future female leaders in STEM. Here are the stories of how they’re changing the ratio, serving as role models for girls and young women across Canada, and inspiring us all.

My name is Meredith Underell

I am a Front-End Developer

When I was 10 I wanted to be a doctor.

I am proud of becoming a developer and continuing to contribute and build amazing products every single day. I love what I do and it’s empowering to know I am making a difference.

The biggest obstacle I have faced is navigating through the world of coding on my own. That’s why I’m a big supporter of mentorship programs and guided in-person & online classes!

My advice to women is to just do it! Start by attending a local workshop or signing up for a course. See if you like it first before fully immersing yourself. There are tons of resources in Canada such as Ladies Learning Code & HackerYou (http://learninglabs.org).
