Portraits of Strength features women in STEM who have helped break barriers and achieved great things within their industry. These are the movers and shakers making a better world for future female leaders in STEM. Here are the stories of how they’re changing the ratio, serving as role models for girls and young women across Canada, and inspiring us all.
I am a Graphic Designer & Game Maker.
When I was 10 I wanted to be Tomb Raider.
I work as a UI/UX Designer in the Games Industry.
I am proud of working for a games studio with such amazing and supportive people (over half of which are other “tech girls”). I’m also incredibly proud to be involved with Dames Making Games — an equally as amazing and supportive games community. I am so proud of the amazing people I work with!
The biggest obstacle I have faced was self doubt! My biggest obstacle has always been (and probably always will be) myself.
My advice to women is never stop learning — teach yourself how to make games from scratch, learn the best practices for creating and implementing UI. Play lots of games, peruse lots of websites, get inspired by everything! Treat negative experiences as challenges to overcome, and experiences to grow from.
